The Figure 8 Dribbling Program: What Is Inside It

The Figure 8 Dribbling Program: What Is Inside It

Most dribbling advice for parents ends at "practise dribbling". The Figure 8 Dribbling Program exists because that is not a plan, and a player who does not have a plan does the same thing every day until they stop enjoying it.

This is what the programme contains and how a family works through it.

The problem it solves

Two things stop at-home practice: no space, and no idea what to do. The figure 8 answers both. Two cones and five yards is the whole footprint, and the programme decides what happens each day so nobody has to.

A driveway, a garage, a patch of grass by the side of a pitch. If a player can take four steps in a straight line, they can do this programme.

What is in it

  • Follow-along video sessions. The player presses play and copies. No interpretation, no reading.
  • A progression, not a pile. Sessions build in order — shape, then surfaces, then moves, then pace.
  • Both feet, enforced. Sessions alternate leading foot rather than letting a player pick their favourite.
  • Turning and 1v1 moves. The pattern becomes a container for the moves that beat defenders.
  • Progress tracking. Completed sessions are recorded, so a player can see the work stacking up.

How a week looks

Four short sessions beats one long one. Dribbling is a motor skill, and motor skills are built by frequency.

What to expect, and when

  • Week 1. The pattern is awkward. This is normal and it is not a sign of anything.
  • Week 2 to 3. The shape holds at speed. The weak foot is still obviously weaker.
  • Week 4 to 6. Touches shrink. Parents usually notice this before the player does.
  • Week 8 onwards. It shows up in matches — turning out of pressure instead of passing backwards.

Train it, do not just read about it.

Every drill on this page is a follow-along video inside Anytime Soccer Training. Your player presses play, copies what they see, and the app keeps track of what they have done.
